This photo hangs prominently in my office as homage to the one of the greatest coaches the profession has ever scene, right beneath a framed Vince Lombardi. The Bear died 25 years ago tomorrow and on today's show, we'll take a moment to remember him with 3 of his boys from the '78 National Championship team...Marty Lyons, Barry Krauss and Murray Legg, who all played a huge roll in one of the most famous plays in Alabama history, The Goal Line Stand, in the '79 Sugar Bowl against Penn St. After Lyons advised Nittany Lions QB Chuck Fusina to "Pass the ball", Penn St. tried to go over the top on 4th and inches at the goal line. Krauss met running back Mike Guman in mid air and Murray Legg came in to clean it up and history was made. ESPN called it one of the ten best plays in college football history, and these three amigos will join us today at 5:00 Central Time to talk about that and the man they called Coach...

BESIDES BEING ONE OF THE GREATEST COACHES OF ALL TIME, HE WAS ONE OF THE TRUE GENTLEMEN OF THE GAME. HE WON WITH CLASS AND HE LOST WITH CLASS.
I HAD THE HONOR OF MEETING HIM WHEN HE COACHED AT KENTUCKY. MY DAD AND UNCLE BROUGHT ME TO NASHVILLE FROM CHATTANOOGA TO WATCH MY COUSIN PLAY FOR THE BEAR AGAINST VANDERBILT. WE SAT ON THE KY BENCH AND I SHOOK BEAR'S HAND.
IT WAS MY FIRST EVER LIVE FOOTBALL GAME AND MY FIRST EVER FOOTBALL BRAWL AS KY AND VANDY DUKED IT OUT. IN THE OLD DAYS, BOTH TEAMS HAD TO GO THRU THE SAME TUNNEL TO ENTER AND EXIT THE FIELD. BOTH TEAMS ENDED UP IN A PILE AS THEY EXITED AT HALF TIME. THAT, AND THE BEAR IN HIS HAT WERE THE TWO THINGS THAT ARE WITH ME AFTER ALL THESE YEARS.
I WAS STATIONED IN FULDA, GERMANY WITH THE 11TH ACR WHEN I GOT THE NEWS OF THE BEARS PASSING. EVEN THOUGH MY BLOOD RUNS DEEP ORANGE, I RESPECTED THE BEAR FOR BOTH THE MAN AND COACH HE WAS, AND MOURNED HIS PASSING.
Speaking as one of the MANY Alabama fans transplanted into the Nashville area, I appreciate your coverage of the entire sec. This interview was a segment I was sorry to miss. The Bear was good for Alabama and the entire sec.
I will never forget at the end of the Sugar Bowl in 92 under Gene Stallings when they won the last National Championship by destroying Miami, Keith Jackson stated,"The Bear has been replaced".
He was wrong.

Titans Rob, it's hard to listen to this show since it is so pro Bammer. The show may not last long in Nashville because we don't care about everything that goes on in the mullet nation.
