Next Urban Meyer....or Mike Shula

Some say Mike Hamilton panicked with the hire of Lane Kiffin to be the Volunteers 22nd head coach...that he comes cheap and easy. I say, "Not so fast, my friends". Lane Kiffin may be short on head coaching experience with nothing but a miserable tenure under a miserable owner in Oakland, but look at the entire body of work. At USC he was a tireless recruiter and the offensive coordinator of an outstanding team. A team that doesn't run the Arena offenses of the Big 12, but a pro style offense found in most of the SEC. Speaking of pro style, he also brings the father of the 'Tampa Two' defense, and, ironically, his own father, Monte Kiffin who will take an already very good unit and make it better. And, maybe Coach "O" as in Orgeron as well. Orgeron had tremendous recruiting classes at Ole Miss, and got that job off his reputation as a recruiting with....USC. Polls are showing Vols fans to be split on this move...but many are just stuck in the Fulmer mud of the past few years...embrace this guy, Tennessee fan; I think you've got a winner here!

I love this hire. It pretty much solidifies UT as an also ran for another 10 years.

USC's success was as much Sarkisian as Kiffin. Monte is a great pro DC but can he related to the college player? Coach O would be an asset though. They need someone with connections in the South.

I'm thinking so far so good. I'm optimistic for now. One thing for sure is that Dave Clawson left as Richmond's head coach and not only did they improve but they won the National Title. No coincidence that Tennessee got worse with him calling the plays. I think while David Cutcliff was at UT Phil Fulmer had gotten very comfortable with his coordinators doing their jobs and maybe thought that he had just signed a big contract and would be able to work everything out next year. I hope Lane Kiffen understands that right now is the only thing that matters and that he is not coaching at Penn St. but UT. Speaking of Penn St. I'm glad to see that Joe was just given a three year extension. Joe Paterno and Phil Fulmer are more alike than most people realize. Without trying to compare which conference may be more competitive to coach in just take a look at their careers. Statistically on average each of them have had about the same amount of success.
Divide Joe Paterno's years of coaching by Phil Fulmer's and you will arrive at 2.6.
Take all of Fulmers wins including conference wins, conference titles, National Titles, Bowl games, losses, etc. multiply them times 2.6 and you will end up with Joe Paterno's numbers. Every single one except for undefeated seasons where Phil had only one and Joe has had four. Does this show the loyalty of Penn. St. vs. UT or does this point a finger directly at the expectations of SEC fans vs. Big-10 fans?
