Brothers from another Mother?

I know this may be upsetting for Tennessee Titans fans that also bleed the Orange and White of UT, but facts are stubborn things, and the top team in the NFL and the top team in College football are nearly identical. The obvious is the Titans are 8-0 and the Tide are 9-0. What is amazing is that they both get it done with veteran QBs who don't make mistakes and come up big when needed. They both have smothering, fearsome defenses, and running games that will physically hurt you. They both play best with a lead and almost always control the game from the onset. Finally, check the men at the top. Both DBs in there playing careers, both steady and defensive minded; and both considered among the best in their leagues. Call 'em the Alabama Titans or the Tennessee Tide, because these two go hand in hand...

He didn't say you had to care about Alabama football moron. He was simply saying that the two teams have a near identical formula to winning. Anyone who is a real football fan sees that and understands it. By the way, just because we are in Tennessee doesn't mean no one cares about Alabama being number one. Don't hate just cuz the Vols couldn't score on a stiff breeze and your coach got axed...

No one cares about the #1 team in the BCS? I think you sell fellow Tennesseans a bit short. I wish my favorite teams (Cleveland Browns, Notre Dame) were using this formula...

I suspect that Thom may have been insulted by Phillip Fulmer at some point. If not, possibly his combined love of Notre Dame and his fondness for Alabama have clouded his judgement in general on Tennessee football fans. Facts are stubborn things and the facts are SEC fans in general aren't like Ohio state or Michigan or USC fans. SEC fans understand the game of football and know whether or not their team is any good. The proving ground that is the SEC helps make that apparent to all of us. Just as fans of the NFL can enjoy watching teams other than theirs play most SEC fans enjoy watching teams other than their favorite team play. It is due to in general to the overall parity of the conference and other than this year it is a enigma which is usually exclusive to the SEC and the NFL. I know that whoever our favorite team may be, we will all be proudly supporting whoever represents our conference in whatever Bowl games they may play. One for all and all for one!

He does kinda' hate on ole phil alot but, truth is alabama and the titans do have alot of similarities and its not like he made the obvious comparison of the lions to the vols. roll tide

I'm a Titans fan and bleed Orange and White and don't understand how that could be considered offense unless it was supposed to be. The fact is both teams have earned what the have. Go Titans and Tide!

our Coach did get axed and he probably should have known better than letting Cutcliff go and bringing in some foreigner for offensive coordinator. Dave Clauson needs to take the lead from Coach and resign now. Go Vols

Well I know Thom better than anyone and I know for a fact that he thinks that Phil is a great guy and has had great teams in the past which is due to his skill as a coach. The point is that UT is not what they used to be. That is also attributed to Phil. Thom believes in the philosophies which Saban and Fisher use. The philosophy that after the game, the other team will dread playing you again, whether they won or lost. Physical play is, has and will always be the backbone of a great football team. Not just on defense, but offense as well. (See running teams)
Also, to say that Ohio State, USC and Michigan fans don't understand how good they are is ridiculous. Fans in the SEC believe the SEC champ should go to the bowl game every year... Everyone is partial to there own team...
Knowing Thom personally, sure he has his preferences of teams, but who doesn't? His job isn't to sell you himself based on the teams he likes. It's to tell it like it is. Fact is, Alabama isn't the best team in the country. Yet they are currently #1. Same with the Titans... Thom is just telling you his opinion on why.

This blog is not to hate on the Big Dawg because he is aware the Vols quality of play has been deteriorating over the past few years- and as far as Michigan and Ohio St. fans not knowing how good their teams are is ridiculous- both states have pretty bad NFL teams to show them what bad looks like. As far as Southern Cal fans go - I think an argument could be made that maybe they don't know how good their team really is for the same reasons we don't know how good Penn St. really is. The teams in the Big-12 and (I still believe) the S.E.C. have to play tough back-to-back games more often so they go thru a "trial by fire" so to speak -this is something that the Pac-10 and Big-10 aren't able to offer. By the way, Alabama and the Titans are "Brothers from another Mother" they both play fundamental football and it works - physical defense, safe QB play, commit to the running game, and strong special teams. Thom states facts - don't let your bruised ego keep you from realizing that. By the way - I'm from Tennessee and a Vol fan - and hope to see Alabama have continued success and beat Florida in the S.E.C. title game.

Actually I think a lot of people in Tennessee care about Alabama Football right now. I happen to love the fact that both Alabama and Tennessee (Titans) are going "old school" and winning games. Then again I grew up with the 'Offense sells tickets Defense wins Championships' mentality :) I can only hope this bodes well for the Tide this weekend as well!

Go Titans and ROLL TIDE!
