This weekend means a lot to Americans. Memorial Day. Time to give respect to those who gave all so we can enjoy the greatest country on the planet...Also....time to Man the Grill! Emphasis there on
MANing the grill. This is a guy's domain...we may not be able to boil water in the kitchen, but dammit, we can grill that meat to perfection! It's also a great race weekend. The Good Ole Boys are in Charlotte for the marathon that is the 600 and the
IRL goes to Indy for that once great, once all important Indy 500. Oh come, on now...you know the 500 isn't what it used to be. And to be perfectly honest, blame the Euro influence. In this example, "Euro" stands for everyone from outside the borders of the US. No
Unsers, no
Rutherfords, no
Mears...this race was great when the token Euro was Mario
Andrietti and really, he was from Pennsylvania....like
Franchetti is from Franklin, TN....
Riiight! But I digress. The question again in Indy is will one time, half field winner Danica Patrick bolt for
NASCAR. And were
supposed to believe this would be a serious
event to be something other than a side show. Back to Franklin's
Franchetti. He WON the Indy 500. He was the
IRL SERIES CHAMPION.
How'd that
NASCAR thing work out for him? Or any of the others that have come over in recent years? The most
successful of the recent converts is Juan Pablo Montoya and he is really just a middle of the pack guy. And he was extremely successful without the fenders. Danica has done really....nothing. One win in 4 years, overseas, with a limited field. As I said, Side Show. Hype. Cute. Michelle
Wie. Finally, don't go all Tony Stewart on me...he's one...and Danica is no Tony....

Look, at this point Jr. is the hype. Right now, "sideshows" wouldn't hurt NASCAR, they would help put butts in the stands and eyes on the tv.. and help grow the fan base. Danica would be staring at that 88 the whole time she's putting on her make up in her rear view mirror. Bring on the sideshow, and the guys everyone loves to hate, but can drive their asses off and win. Stop romanticizing Jr. he's not his daddy and never will be.
You are right, it would be Dale an Danica at the rear...
What open wheel guys are even getting in good equipment? Hornish has probably the best of them, and that's not saying much. Ganassi is nothing these days, so Montoya is pretty much working miracles. Allmendinger could win races in a competitive car.
Don't laugh, but other than Stewart, Robby Gordon is probably the best of all of them. He's just too much of a hot head to be too successful in NASCAR.
