Five games? 45 large? For this? I know
Scottie Nichol has a rep, but the punishment still must fit the crime. Nichol, who got 5 minutes in the game for this
stick-less cross check to the grill of Patrice
Brisebois Saturday night, has been sat down by the NHL for 5 games without pay, totaling over $45,000. Look closely and you can see Nichol's stick falling to the ice.
Brisebois was not hurt on the play, but none of that mattered. For Nichol's part, he needs to know he's on the league's short list of repeat offenders and he needs to be a reliable part of this team. But as much as I am not a fan of 'gratuitous' violence in hockey, this is a case where the
punishment does not fit the crime.
