Misplaced support?

As word came down that the NFL has fined several members of the Atlanta Falcons for 'uniform violations', I began to wonder exactly what these knuckleheads were trying to say. "Free Mike Vick"? Oh, so you basically think it's OK to treat defenseless dogs as inhumanely as possible? To have them fight to the death? Or maybe it's the part about lying to everyone, including the authorities, that works for you. No, wait...it's that thing where an entire business, the owner and the franchise hook there wagon to your horse, and you bring it all down with selfish, criminal behaviour....but really, "Free Mike Vick!"...because who could be a better teammate than the one who you all put your faith in, trusted with leadership and ultimately screwed you over. Yeah, "Free Mike Vick". If he were my teammate, I might wear that T-shirt...only the first word would be a different F-word....

I concur 100% with you Thom. I’m sick and tired of the over all attitude of professional athletes. I’m glad that the arrogant SOB got what he deserved, not only because of the crime he committed, but because of his above the law attitude that caused him to plead innocent only until he realized that he wasn’t going to get off unscathed because of who he is. These guys all need a dose of reality to understand that they have been given a precious gift, one that can be snatched away at the drop of a hat, whether it’s due to injury or something inhumane in this case. It should be something they relish and hold onto as long as possible and be thankful everyday for it, instead of constantly abusing it. It is a privilege, not a right. I work two jobs just to support my family and am thankful every day for what I have, because I know that there are so many people out there that are so much worse off.

The thing is, most of the guys in the NFL, MLB, NHL, PGA, and even MLS aren't "Bad Guys". (Yes I did exclude the NBA, make your own assumption about that...)It is the few and far between that give these leagues a bad rap. A few bad apples ruin the bunch... The problem is, we the media are probably the ones to blame. The fact that we put high school kids on pedestals so high is no fault of theirs. They work hard and play their butts off... We stand in awe of some of the things they do and call them things like (King) James. Michael Vick, along with many athletes are put on a pedestal. They do think they are above the law. They do think they can harass female co-workers sexually and see no repercussions. They say and do what they want. But surprise, we are the ones empowering them. In almost the same breath we call Vick a snake and the greatest athlete ever. We treat them as great men because of their actions on the field. The American society has such a skewed view of greatness it is not even funny anymore... How about talking about the men who are great on and off the field? I could care less if Vick ever gets out. But you know what? We are just as responsible for putting him their as his child "hood" buddies. Now we are going after coaches... We back them into a corner every time a new job comes up and wait for them to say something wrong. What is a guy in the middle of the season supposed to say? "Well, yeah, I am not sure yet what Alabama is going to offer me yet. I am obviously struggling here in Miami. Let's wait a few weeks and when the season is over I will see if I want to stay or not..." Could you imagine if Nick Saban said that? The microscope has advanced across the years as if it were used for science... It becomes more powerful every second. We are the ones to blame. We the people...focus our scopes on only a few men, the "bad men"... Waiting to see what they will do next. I honestly don't care about T.O., The King, Mike Vick, or any other of these JOKES anymore... They aren't great... They have proven that they are human. Their autographs, locks of hair, and anything else they touch doesn't have any monetary value. Until we give it one...
